Kendall Jenner on Perfume Layering, Scent Association, and Her Everyday Designer Pick
Read all the exclusive details.
Would you rather wear one perfume for the rest of your life or never repeat the same scent ever again? Kendall Jenner prefers the latter. "Different scents for sure. I like having options depending on what I'm doing or how I'm feeling," she says. I'm inclined to agree with the model. As chic as it is to be known for an iconic scent (á la Marilyn Monroe or CBK), there are simply way too many pretty perfumes to limit yourself to just one spritz.
It's why I'll always swap out my go-to scent with the seasons—and this spring, Tory Burch's Sublime Eau de Toilette is the ultimate vanity staple. I'd wager Jenner would agree (she's the face of the campaign, after all), as she praises its light, airy dry-down that "smells like a better version of you.”
If you're familiar with Tory Burch's original Sublime Eau de Parfum, then you know it's a cool-girl blend of leather with an unexpected floral freshness. (I like to say it makes you smell like a quiet-luxury "cashmere cowgirl.") The Eau de Toilette version maintains that leathery base but brightens it with clementine and softens it with iris and amber woods. The original Sublime has a rustic edge that makes a bolder statement, while the Eau de Toilette reflects the quiet confidence that's A+ for everyday wear.
Article continues below"[It] can give you a different feel depending on how much you apply," Jenner adds, who notes she's "pretty low-maintenance" with her application. "I do my wrists, neck, and sometimes behind my ears if I'm going out. However, I have really enjoyed playing more with layering since Sublime mixes really well.” You could totally add a smokier, more amber-forward fragrance before heading out for the night to highlight its sensual base, or like Jenner says, simply add another spritz or two of Sublime to amplify its intensity.
You could also layer Sublime over its matching body oil, a technique countless experts recommend for optimal longevity. (You not only double up on scent but also moisturize your limbs, and well-hydrated skin better holds on to fragrance.) Launching today, the sunflower- and jojoba-infused formula boasts the same Sublime scent with a radiant, shimmering finish—perfect for a balmy spring or summer night to remember.
"I do think certain smells can remind you of a time in your life," Jenner says regarding scent association. While she doesn't timestamp her own scents, per se ("I think there are scents that tie me more to people in my life than to moments," she adds), I have to assume that Sublime is how she'd describe her ideal spring vibe: fresh, luminous, and effortlessly elegant.
